Good God. What have I done.

What am I doing here?

For years I've read blogs and never really entertained the thought of starting one myself, simply because I had nothing entertaining or interesting enough to blog about. So why am I here now...

As all girls seem to do, a little over two years ago my oldest daughter took a big interest in horses. After a bunch of begging on behalf of both her and the wife, who was a horse person in a previous life, we got a horse. Now I've never been a horse person. I grew up with all kinds of other tasty animals such as cows and chickens but this horse ownership thing was a whole new world to me and it was an extremely rewarding experience for both my family and myself.

Fast forward a year and suddenly we are looking for a bigger hunk of green earth to call home. As soon as word got out my in-laws offered to sell us their 34 acres. Their reasoning was that I was looking to enrich my family's life and it was simply too much for them to take care of any more.

So here we are....Now what? I've got more work than what I know what to do with and I really don't know where to begin.

So why the blog? I wanted to chronicle my life as a farm owner. As it stands now, we'll be shacked up with the in-laws until they are done building their new home. After that I'll be head dumb-ass in charge. Between now and then I'll spend way too much time holding down my full time job and fixing all that needs fixed to get the place up and running.

The plan is to post about my exploits on a regular basis. Why? So I have a record of what I've done and when I did it and second, the internet is chock full of information. If at some point in time I can post about how I did something and it helps someone else out who is as lost as I am now, then I did a good thing.

Farming knowledge is something that you used to pick up from the generations who came before you or from chewing the fat with the old timers in overalls at the coffee counter on saturday morning. Sadly those days seem to be long gone. So If I post sometime along the way here and if you happen to stumble upon it and want some more info on it, feel free to drop me a line.
